Favour & Support In Faith

“As soon as the lad had gone, David arose from a place toward the south, fell on his face to the ground, and bowed down three times. And they kissed one another; and they wept together, but David more so. Then Jonathan said to David, “Go in peace, since we have both sworn in the name of the LORD, saying, ‘May the LORD be between you and me, and between your descendants and my descendants, forever.’ ” So he arose and departed, and Jonathan went into the city.”
‭‭I Samuel‬ ‭20:41-42‬ ‭(NKJV‬‬)

Saul’s irrational hatred towards David was made apparent to Jonathan. The fact that Saul took a spear and wanted to kill his own son shows his determination. To honour the oath made previously, Jonathan made known his father’s intention through a lad. David had to get going to avoid a death pursuit from Saul.

Blow after blow came towards David. He lost favour with the king and have to leave the royal palace. What’s worse now was that Jonathan, who loved him dearly and supported him, is no longer going to be physically present with him. Who can he look to for support besides God?

If we were to see David’s predicament, there may be comments about him in the lines of, “He must not have been in God’s will - look how things are not moving smooth for him.. There must be something wrong with him since now no major character is on his side.” It is easy to jump to such conclusions if we view it in worldly, human eyes.

If you are in a situation where things are not moving as how you or others are expecting, or if favour from men is not on your side because you are standing for righteousness and following God, take heart that you have the biggest supporter who is watching from above. Vindication shall come in due time.
