Honest Heart Leads To Honest Worship

The Holy Spirit led me to the chapter when Adam and Eve sinned. They hid away from God because they ate from the tree which God had forbidden them to eat from. I asked Him what the outcome would have been if Adam and Eve confessed their sin to God. He then told me to analyse their attitudes.

Adam and Eve thought of God to be someone who would punish them. At the same time feeling guilty, they wanted to push responsibilities to other people so that God will perhaps spare them from the punishment.

“Maybe if I push the responsibility to Eve, I would be spared and I may continue to work in the garden. Anyway, from the beginning, I was alone. God shouldn't have placed the woman as my helper. Instead of helping me, she made me sinned against God.” Adam thought to himself.

“I shouldn't have listened to the serpent. Now my eyes are opened and I'm so ashamed. Maybe I should just push the blame to the serpent, since he was the one who told me that I can eat the fruit and I won't die.” Eve was thinking of what she should say to God.

Both thought of a strategic plan.
Both thought they would be spared from death since someone instigated them to eat that fruit.
Both blamed others for their own actions.

But both weren't confident if their plan would work.
Both were afraid so they hid away from God.
Both felt shameful because their eyes were opened and they realised that they were wrong.

Still, both decided not to take responsibility for their own actions. Rather, they decided to give their defense.

If both were honest before God, and if both understood the nature of God, that he is a forgiving God, both would have confessed their sin and ask Him to pardon them.

“Identify yourself with Adam and Eve, and ask yourself if you really understand who I am.” This was the thought that birthed in my spirit after I understood what God wanted of me.

Some of us got the understanding that God is a God of wrath, because He told Adam and Eve, “You'll surely die if you eat from the tree of the knowledge of good and evil.” We understand that God is just, but we left out the nature of God's forgiveness toward us. So, rather than being honest, we tried to hide away from Him.

When I refused to confess my sin, my body wasted away, and I groaned all day long. Day and night your hand of discipline was heavy on me. My strength evaporated like water in the summer heat. Finally, I confessed all my sins to you and stopped trying to hide my guilt. I said to myself, “I will confess my rebellion to the LORD.” And you forgave me! All my guilt is gone.
Psalm 32:3-5 (NLT)

Even David had the mere understanding that God is a just God, so he decided to hide his sins from God. That was when he understood, that the more he tried to hide, the more he will only be wasting away. When he understood that God is also a God of mercy, he confessed all his rebellion and God forgave him. “And you forgave me! (Verse 5)” What astounding revelation David thought he found when he confessed all his sins to God!

“Come clean before me so that I can make you clean.” Maybe Jesus is whispering in your hearts right now, to come clean before him. He knows everything, so stop trying to hide.

This High Priest of ours understands our weaknesses, for he faced all of the same testings we do, yet he did not sin. So let us come boldly to the throne of our gracious God. There we will receive his mercy, and we will find grace to help us when we need it most.
Hebrews 4:15-16 (NLT)

God understands out weakness, so why not cease hiding, but start to be honest before God? Come clean and receive his grace and strength to “Go and sin no more (John 8:11).”

God I know You'll never give me a temptation too hard for me to overcome. Yet when at times when I sinned against You, grant me the courage to come boldly to Your throne of grace so that it may help me in time of need. Give me the strength to go and leave my life of sin. Help me to be honest before You. Thank You Jesus for understanding my weaknesses. Because of You, I can be strong. I ♥ You Jesus.

  1. Great post Joy! :) We do need to stop making excuses and bring it out into the perfect light of truth. We need to deal with it, face up to it, confess it, and then quit doing it! Since we can’t hide from God we may as well choose to do what is right. :)

    Blessings and hugs!
