Who Am I? Yet He Sees Me

For my part, I am going to boast about nothing but the Cross of our Master, Jesus Christ. Because of that Cross, I have been crucified in relation to the world, set free from the stifling atmosphere of pleasing others and fitting into the little patterns that they dictate.
Galatians 6:14 (MSG)

If I will boast, I shall only boast about the Cross. I don’t boast that I am perfect, for I am not holy after all. In fact, I’m a sinner, a person who does not even deserve forgiveness. Who am I that God should send His Son to die for my sins? But yet He saw my plight. He saw that I was lost, weak, broken and helpless - like a lost sheep without a shepherd.

My life is like water spilled out on the ground, which cannot be gathered up again. Who am I that God should look upon me and find ways just to bring me back to him? Yet He saw me and called me precious. He brought me back through the death of His Son, Jesus (2 Samuel 14:14).

God didn’t see my past lawlessness and said I was beyond redemption. He didn’t give up on me though there were times I felt unworthy because of the many sins I committed. All He told me was this, “If you are Holy, you wouldn’t need my Son. If you are sinless, you wouldn’t need me.”

There were times that I didn’t believe in myself. Times when I thought I thought would never be used by anyone because of the junk I got into. I told God, “I’m so sorry that You have to always clear my mess. I’m sorry that I am always getting into trouble. Forgiving me is more than enough. Don’t use me; choose someone else.”  I thought I didn’t fit into the bill – God’s list of “Chosen people to be used.” I wasn’t like Noah who always walked blamelessly before the Lord. But I heard God’s assuring voice, “I didn’t love you because you were good enough to fit into the bill of ‘worthiness’; I love you just as you are. I can turn your mess into a message – I am God Almighty.”

Thankful that God accepted me just as I am. Thankful that God believes in me. No matter how many times I failed, He strengthens and upholds me by His right hand (Isaiah 41:10). With a heart of gratitude I thank Jesus for His love. With a humble heart I exalt and praise His name. I thank God for He is Lord, Creator of the universe, and yet still my Father. Where would I be without Him?

For great is your love toward me; you have delivered me from the depths of the grave.
Psalm 86:13 (NIV)
